Carbondale Neighborhood - Carbondale

Carbondale

When gold and silver were discovered near Aspen in 1879, prospectors poured into the upper Roaring Fork Valley to settle and establish mining claims. Carbondale was highly coveted because of its rich and fertile land, and early settlers started cattle and sheep ranches and began growing potatoes. For over 50 years potatoes was the mainstay crop of the Carbondale economy. The town of Carbondale incorporated in 1888 and was named after one of its original settlers.

Known as the gateway to the Crystal River Valley, Carbondale is anchored to the South by 12,953 ft. Mount Sopris, hailed as Colorado’s greatest continuous vertical gain.

Carbondale is a timeless mountain town, abundant with charm and is characterized by its sunshine, low humidity and mild winters. Activities here are ideal for recreation enthusiasts.
